Jason Short’s story starts in the studio: a musician stepfather with a room full of synthesizers, and a kid pushing buttons before he could read liner notes. He apprenticed behind the counter of Smash Music in Jacksonville Beach, was DJing clubs by eighteen, and was converted for good at his first rave in 1997 — watching thousands of people move to a DJ Dan set and hearing something deeply tribal in it. A Recording Arts degree from Full Sail followed in 2001, and with it his first releases.
Those came as Sattva — solo — and Bio Genesis, his trio with Marc Smith and Chris Havens, released across Nepol Records and Florida’s Xplosion imprint from 2001 to 2003: “Thoughts of the Future,” “Elusive Delusion,” “Lightsound,” “Echo of Silence” and “Patience.” The records drew remixes from Way Out West and Oliver Lieb, international acclaim from Resident Advisor, and his first overseas booking in Mexico — and in April 2003 the Groove Element remix of “Lightsound” reached #39 on the Balance Promote Group chart, compiled by a panel of North America’s premier progressive DJs including Sandra Collins, Danny Tenaglia and Markus Schulz. First vinyl pressed in Chicago; a Miami stint sharpened the sound toward techno.
In 2006 he landed in San Francisco, and the career detonated. He co-founded Auralism Records in 2007 — one of the labels credited with moving SF from a house town toward a techno town — serving as its A&R heart while touring as Coalition of the Killing with Marc Smith, named a Beatport Minimal Artist to Watch in 2009 and supported by DJs from Laurent Garnier to Davide Squillace. He played Ecuador, Mexico, Germany, Switzerland, Spain and Italy; taught production workshops; and recorded as Eutactic, Kyaro and Luther Mandross along the way.
Back home in Jacksonville, a new chapter: Sol Glissant, debuted in 2014 to express his funky side — a genre-fluid outlet spanning disco, electro, breaks and dub, revived in 2020 alongside mastering work for Immers Music. Today it thrives on Whiskey Pickle and Denied Music, and with Jacksonville selector Alex Saparata he records as Luv Glissant, whose “No Longer In Control” EP arrived in 2026 with vinyl on the way — the first release on their newly founded label, Audio Visual Nootropics. The genres pivot; the work never stops.
